Safety First.
We want your buying and selling experience to be successful and safe. Follow these common-sense guidelines when transacting locally.
Spotting Scams
- Too good to be true: If a commercial zero-turn with 50 hours is listed for $500, it's likely a scam.
- Sight unseen payments: Never wire money (Zelle, Western Union) or send gift cards to a private seller before seeing the mower in person.
- Complex stories: Be wary of sellers claiming they are out of the country, in the military, or using an "agent" to handle the sale.
- Overpayment scams: If a buyer sends a check for more than the asking price and asks you to refund the difference, it's a scam. The check will bounce.
Meeting Safely
- Meet in daylight: Schedule meetings during the day. Inspecting a mower in the dark is difficult and unsafe.
- Bring a friend: Whenever possible, don't go alone. Have someone accompany you for the transaction.
- Public locations: If the mower can be transported, meet in a busy public place like a supermarket parking lot or a local police station's "safe exchange" zone.
- Trust your instincts: If something feels off about the buyer, seller, or location, cancel the meeting.
Keep Communications on Platform
For your protection, we recommend keeping initial communications within our messaging system. Be cautious about giving out your personal phone number or email address until you feel comfortable with the other party.
